Just came across this article on the Times Online Web site about the best areas in Spain. Might be useful for those who are thinking about buying Spanish property....
http://property.timesonline.co.uk/to...icle786688.ece It's a 2006 article and covers Costa Brava (north Catalonia) Costa Dorada (south Catalonia) Costa Blanca (Valencia region) Costa Calida (Murcia) Costa Almeria (eastern Andalusia) Costa del Sol (central Andalusia) Costa de la Luz (western Andalusia) Costa Verde (Galicia, Asturias, Cantabria) |

That is a very good question, that I have as well. How do they decide on what' best. Does their site list the criteria used in making the decision as to the best places. I would like to know.

It looks like they've a scoring system based on a number of criteria. Forx example, Costa Blanca gets
WEATHER 8 ACCESSIBILITY 8 FOOD 7 SPORTS 7 CULTURE 7 SCENIC BEAUTY 7 BRIT ALERT 9 QUALITY OF HOUSING 7 VALUE FOR MONEY 7 POTENTIAL GROWTH 6 so it's a pretty good mix of lifestyle and practical considerations. It'd be interesting to see this updated for 2007 or a historical breakdown. |

That is always good to know. So it is based on a item per item basis and then calculated together to get what you are looking for in the best places. This way you can decide if say sports is your big thing which city will be best for you.

But if you're looking for a good investment as well as a holiday home, apparently it's best to invest in newer, more unusual places that are still growing. I was reading an article that said that the new property hotspots to make real money at the moment are Bulgaria and China: FinanceDaily - Emerging Markets the New Property Hotspots
